The photographer Jim Naughten's portraits of the Herero people of Namibia (once colonized by Germany) make for arresting work. Captured against the "bleak, lunar landscape" of the Namibian desert and attired in the victorian dress typical of the tribe, there is more than an element of surrealism here.
Definitely worth checking out the March 2013 exhibition of works by Naughten at the Margaret Street Gallery in Marylebone.
